Drink and Shrink

While certain amount of brain shrinkage is normal in age, greater amounts in some parts of the brain have been linked to dementia. But what’s good for the heart may not be good for the brain. People drinking alcohols, in moderate amounts that help prevent heart disease; have smaller brain volume than those who do not. Imagine a closed circuit television showing the decline in brain volume. Alcohol at a higher or lower doses results in shrinking of the brain and cognitive deficit but study does not show that the smaller brain volume actually impaired memory of mental function. Alcohol is known to dehydrate tissues, and constant dehydration can have negative effects on any sensitive tissues.
