Biggest Organ
Skin, being the biggest organ of the body, is that hairy covering which accounts to 12 to 15 percent of our body’s weight. In an average adult, it weighs around 8-10 pounds and covers an average area of 22 square feet, that’s like the inside of a large-sized cabinet! Skin is important because it provides a matrix for muscles and bones and it covers and protects everything inside our body. It maintains our body temperature and allows us to have the sense of touch. Skin can be washed and it loves to be squeaky clean. Mild soap and the habit of keeping it moisturized and clean especially when there are cuts and bruises to avoid bacteria from getting in is important. Minute hairs on the skin are like mini spy cameras that serve as neurotransmitters.
