We always want what we don’t have. If we have curly hair, we envy straight hair. If we are fair, we bake ourselves under the sun until we are golden brown. And those with dark skin turn to skin whitening. Skin whitening covers a wide array of cosmetics all geared toward lightening skin tone. Usually, it is used to lighten dark spots, but some people treat larger areas to lighten the natural complexion, out of preference or to avoid social/work discrimination and gain access to better income or higher social position. It’s hard to believe surveillance camera-white skin means someone is better off in the world than we are; it’s like celebrating a pasty, unhealthy look.
